Click a section below for more details about The Flight Deck Half Marathon & 5K. The event kicks off with the half marathon at 9:00 am followed by the 5K at 9:30 am!
Start Time – 9:00 AM
Start/Finish Address: 11 Atlantic Ave, Brunswick, ME
Time Limit: 3 hours 30 minutes (walkers welcome!)
Traffic: All public roads open to traffic (does not include the private roadways)
With over 4.5 miles directly on the runways, the half marathon is one of only a few races in the world (that we know of) run on an active airport. But don’t worry about aircraft taking off or landing. The control tower is in communication with every plane landing or taking off. The course crosses over tarmac and takes runners straight down the taxiway and INACTIVE runway right next to the active runway. So it’s possible that while you’re running on the runway you will see air operations on the other runway. Runners have a great chance for a PR as the course is flat and fast! In this race it’s the wind that makes it challenging. Some years in the past it’s been dead calm and in others, there have been gusts over 50 mph. Depending on the direction at the time, that could mean a brutal head-wind or an amazing tail-wind. So get ready to take off!
We’ll email you a comprehensive Race Info Packet a few days before the race which will contain all the small details that you need to know before you arrive, like where the portable restrooms will be, the best viewing areas for friends/family, etc. so keep an eye out!
Start Time – 9:30 AM
Start Address: Orion St and Seahawk Ave
Time Limit: no time limit (walkers welcome!)
Traffic: Open to traffic on public roadways along the last 1.5 miles
Like the half marathon, the 5K is uniquely located on an active airport. In the first 1.5 miles runners pass by massive airplane hangers, cross over tarmac, and then run down an inactive taxiway (next to the active runway) before getting back onto public roads. For the second half of the race runners pass through the re-developed Brunswick Naval Air Station (now called Brunswick Landing). Just before crossing the finish line at the Flight Deck brewery runners pass by P-3 Park that features an actual Lockheed P-3 Orion four-engine turboprop anti-submarine and maritime surveillance aircraft developed for the United States Navy and introduced in the 1960s.
